Shun favouritism in appointments, promotions – Gov. Buni to appointees (Pictures)

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance to favouritism in appointments and promotions to undeserving persons while the most qualified and deserving persons are abandoned and frustrated.
The Governor stated this on Thursday while administering the oath of office on the Yobe State Head of Service, two Commissioners, four Permanent Secretaries, and 28 Special Advisers for effective service delivery in the state.
The newly appointed commissioners include Professor Abba Idris and Alhaji Mohammed Mohammed Bara.
Addressing the new Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, Governor Buni said, “the state is losing experienced hands to retirement, you should cultivate a new effective and efficient workforce to serve our people.
The Governor assured the Head of Service that, government would provide his office with all the necessary support to train and retrain the workforce to promote efficiency in service delivery.
“We must promote competence and merit to make the civil service efficient and productive. We must differentiate between civil service, “he said.
Governor Buni charged the new commissioners to contribute positively to the formulation and execution of all government policies, programmes, and projects prudently and transparently for the benefit of the people of the state.

He also charged the Special Advisers to carry their constituents along to understand the government policies and programmes.
“Most often, our communities are left behind because we fail to bring them on board to understand the workings of government policies and programmes.
“The office of a Special Adviser can only be vibrant when there is a working connection with the grassroots to afford you credible inputs, for you to advise from a well-informed perspective.”
Governor Buni assured that his administration would continue to maintain its open door policy for public officers to make contributions and take collective ownership and responsibility of the government.
He enjoined the new appointees to key into the policy of accountability, probity, and transparency of his administration.
The Chairman of the Teaching Service Board, Yakubu Dokshi, three members of the State Independent Electoral Commission and a member of the Local Government service commission, were also sworn into office by the governor.
