Students trapped as school building in Jos collapses during exams
A two-storey school building at Saint Academy, Jos, collapsed today, trapping scores of students inside. The incident occurred while students were taking their third-term examinations.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the ground floor of the building housed Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) students, while senior students occupied the top floors.
Rescue efforts are currently underway, led by the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Mr. Sunday Abdu, the Executive Secretary of Plateau SEMA, confirmed that personnel from various emergency services, including the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), are at the scene with earth-moving equipment to clear the debris and rescue the trapped students.

Mr. Eugene Nyelong, NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator, stated that the exact number of casualties would be determined once rescue operations are complete. Rescued victims are being transported to hospitals by ambulances from multiple agencies, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, and Police.
