Suspected IPOB fighters kidnap students, others, demand N30m ransom

Suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have abducted eleven passengers at the Amechi-Idodo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki federal highway.

Neptune Prime gathered that some of the abductees are returning students of tertiary institutions in Ebonyi State.

According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday as they were travelling in a commercial bus from Awka, Anambra State to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Their bus was intercepted by the hoodlums at the notorious Amechi-Idodo area in Nkanu East Local Government Area that had turned to kidnappers’ den recently.

A family member of one of the victims said the kidnappers have already established communication with them and have demanded for N30 million ransom.

It was confirmed that the unfortunate incident was reported to the Enugu State Police Command.

Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, a deputy superintendent of police, disclosed that the Police Command was working assiduously towards flushing out the hoodlums.

He said that the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogbodo, had reached out to her Enugu counterpart, Kanayo Uzuegbu, over the increasing cases of kidnap in that axis of the highway.

Similarly, the Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, few weeks ago ordered the security agencies to flush out hoodlums perpetrating crime in the state.
