Terrorists in Taraba kill monarch, son

In a distressing incident on Friday evening, gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed and killed the Chief of Chanchanji, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, alongside his son, Yusuf Tanimu.

The attack occurred as the traditional ruler and his son were returning home from a funeral service in Takum.

Governor Agbu Kefas expressed profound sorrow over the deaths in a press statement released by his special adviser on media and digital communication, Emmanuel Bello.

He termed the brutal attack on the respected monarch as tragic and inexcusable.

The governor has called upon security agencies to promptly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice swiftly.

He urged the residents of Takum to remain calm, assuring them that he would spare no effort in pursuing the criminals and addressing the scourge of banditry in the region.

Dr. Kefas reiterated his commitment to eliminating all forms of lawlessness and criminal activities, asserting that the state is determined to take strong security measures to restore peace.

He also extended his condolences to the communities of Chanchanji and Takum, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence and collaboration in building a safe environment for everyone.

This tragic event marks the third instance this year where a traditional ruler has been murdered by suspected bandits, following the killings of the chiefs of Sansani and Usmanu earlier in the year.
