Yobe State was created on August 27th, 1991, by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida who became military ruler and head of state after a coup on 27 August 1985. In August 1991 he created eleven more states in which Yobe State is included. The former head of state implemented various policies and reforms during his time in power.
Damaturu is the state capital of Yobe. Yobe is known as “The Pride of the Sahel” and is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria. It shared a border with the Niger Republic through Gaidam, Yunusari, Yusufari, and Machina and also several Nigerian states, like Gombe State to the southwest, Borno State to the east, Bauchi State to the west, and Jigawa State to the northwest.
Yobe State has a heritage with diverse ethnic groups such as the Kanuri, Fulani, Karai-Karai, Bade, Ngizim, Bolewa, Ngamo, and Hausa among others. The state is known for its traditions, culture, and crafts which reflect the vibrant cultural identity of its people. Understanding the history of the State is essential in appreciating the contributions of its residents to the overall development of Nigeria as a nation.
The people of Yobe State, particularly the Fulani and Kanuri, have a long history dating back centuries.
Yobe State has seventeen local government areas which include: Bade, Bursari, Damaturu, Fika, Fune, Geidam, Gujba, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Machina, Nangere, Nguru, Potiskum, Tarmuwa, Yunusari, Yusufari and is also home to traditional rulers. The Emir of Fika Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrisa, CON, CFR, is the Chairman Of Yobe State Council of Chiefs and also the Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja.
In recent years from 2009 to date, Yobe State has faced security challenges due to activities of Boko Haram, ISIS, and the Government of Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s collaboration with the administration of President Bola Tinubu and other security agencies to restore full peace in the state. Despite the security challenges in the state, the people of Yobe remain united in their effort to rebuild their state and nation at large.
The sons of Yobe have also made significant contributions to the development of the state in various sectors. Their leadership in politics, governance, agriculture, and education has helped drive the progress of the state.

Engr. Muhammed Buba Jajere Mnse: A year of impact in the House of Representatives
Engr. Muhammed Buba Jajere Mnse is a Member House of Representatives of the Fika/Fune federal constituency and also the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
As he marks one year with some months in office. Here are some of his work, bills, and motions he passed to the house which include:
1. Federal College of Nursing Bill: He introduced a bill to establish the Federal College of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Science in Damagum.
2. Erosion Control Motion: He moved a motion to address erosion problems in Jejere, Damagum, and Dagaka.
3. Insecurity Motion: He raised the need to tackle worsening insecurity in the Fika Local Government.
4. Education Petition: He filed a petition against Minister of Education Prof. Mamman Tahir concerning appointments in federal educational institutions.
5. Community Support: Engr. Jajere has provided books for students, installed boreholes, and supplied drugs and farming tools for his constituents.
6. He moved a motion on water scarcity in the Fika and Ngalzarma towns.
Engr. Jajere’s efforts reflect his dedication to education, infrastructure, security, and community welfare.
Dr. Mohammed Goje: A Leader in Humanitarian Efforts
As the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje has been a driving force in improving health outcomes and managing emergencies in the region. His appointment in 2019 by Governor Mai Mala Buni CON marked a significant milestone in his career.
With a background in humanitarian aid and vaccine management, Dr. Goje has made significant contributions to various health and development programs. His expertise has been instrumental in supporting initiatives by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in Yobe State.
Dr. Goje’s dedication to humanitarian efforts has positioned him as a key figure in managing and mitigating emergencies in Yobe State. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance the state’s emergency response and management capabilities.
Under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s CON administration, Dr. Goje’s leadership is expected to bring positive impact and improvements to SEMA. The state looks forward to his continued contributions to the well-being and safety of Yobe State’s residents.

Meet Malam Usman Alhaji Saleh Amb, MIPAM, FCPA, a highly qualified and experienced person with a passion for providing quality education he is currently the National Secretary, JIBWIS National Directorate of Basic, Secondary and Overseas Education. With an M.Ed in Educational Administration and Planning and currently pursuing a Ph.D in Educational Administration and Planning from Yobe State University, Damaturu. Mallam Usman has dedicated his career to improving the social lives of his immediate community using education as a tool. He is also the Vice Chairman Board of Directors/Registrar of Al-Al-Ma’arif College of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Sciences, Potiskum. In 2022 the Emir of Fika and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs Yobe State, Dr.Malam Usman Alhaji Saleh: Transforming Communities through Education Muhammad Abali Ibn Muhammad Idriss CON appointed him as Wakilin Tsaftar Fika.
