Anambra Commissioner, wife regain freedom after kidnapping ordeal
In a harrowing incident that shook Anambra State, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been released from captivity after being abducted on their way to the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter.
The couple was freed on Saturday, August 17, 2024, after spending a day in the hands of their captors.
The abduction occurred on Friday, as the couple traveled along the Edo-Kogi Expressway en route to Abuja for the wedding of Adaora Soludo. The commissioner and his wife were reportedly in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus alongside other passengers when they were ambushed by gunmen. Tragically, one of the commissioner’s aides, who was with them, lost his life during the attack.

A high-ranking government official, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed the release of the commissioner and his wife. “The kidnapped Commissioner of Youth Development and his wife have been released today. To God be the glory. The state government will soon issue a statement on that,” the official revealed.
The circumstances surrounding their release remain unclear, and the state government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. This kidnapping adds to the growing list of security challenges facing the region, with concerns over the safety of public officials and citizens alike.
