The ongoing nationwide protest in Katsina State has escalated as protesters trooped to the residences of former President Muhammadu Buhari in his hometown of Daura and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar Farouk.

The protesters, in their numbers, joined the #EndBadGovernance nationwide demonstration that started on Thursday, August 1 2024.

In a video obtained by Neptune Prime, the angry mob attempted to break into the residence of the former president, saying they were fed up with the economic situation of the country.

The residents set up bonfire in front of the former president’s house and were chanting loudly.

In the video, the young persons were seen shouting on top of their voices, ‘Bama yi! Bama yi! Bama yi!’ in Hausa (We are not doing!), a term usually used as a form of disapproval during protests.

It took the intervention of an unidentified person who came out of Buhari’s residence to address the angry youths.

The person, according to witnesses, asked the mob to select one person to speak, while he would be recorded and the video shown to the Nigerian leader.

After this, the angry youths reportedly headed for the palace of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar Farouk.

One of them was reportedly shot on the leg by security operatives who were trying to disperse them, but the protesters refused to back down.

Following the incident, security has been beefed up in Daura and the entire state to restore public order.

The nationwide protest has escalated into serious violence, leading to the deaths of several people and a 24-hour curfew declared in three states of Borno, Yobe, and Kano.
