Bandits in Kaduna abduct district head, 6 others

Yakubu Jadi, the district head of Garu Kurama in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been kidnapped along with six others, including the catechist of the local Catholic church and Jadi’s own daughter. The abduction occurred on the night of August 23, 2024.

Reports indicate that the bandits carried out the kidnapping in the early hours of the night. Although Kaduna State police authorities have yet to confirm the incident, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has publicly acknowledged the kidnapping. SOKAPU’s public relations officer, Josiah Abraks, reported that the bandits have not yet made any contact with the victims’ families or issued any demands.

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union described the incident as both alarming and worrisome. They have called on security agencies and the Federal Government to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe and prompt release of the victims.

SOKAPU has also urged local communities to enhance their vigilance, be wary of unusual activities or unfamiliar faces in their areas, and promptly report any suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities.
