Bandits in Zamfara attack mining site, kill 11 persons, injure others

Eleven people have been killed when armed terrorists attacked a mining site in Zamfara State.

On 7th August 2024, gunmen on motorcycles attacked a mining site in the Anka area of Zamfara State.

The attack caused the death of many people while some sustained injuries.

Nigeria has been battling attacks from armed gangs as well as terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African branch of the Daesh/ISIS, in various parts of the country.

Despite a mandatory death penalty for kidnapping in Nigeria, abductions for ransom are common.

Armed groups often target villages, schools and travellers in the northern part of the country to demand ransom.
