Bauchi Emirate removes senator’s traditional title for ‘disrespecting’ Gov. Mohammed

The Bauchi Emirate Council has withdrawn the traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi’ from Senator Shehu Buba Umar for allegedly disrespecting and humiliating the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed.
Senator Shehu represents Bauchi South Senatorial district in the National Assembly on the platform of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
A letter dated August 14, 2024, addressed to Senator Umar, signed by one Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council Secretary, said the withdrawal of the traditional title from the federal lawmaker followed a meeting of the council on Wednesday chaired by the Emir of Bauchi that deliberated on the senator’s alleged misdemeanours and consequently resolved to derobe him as a traditional title holder of the emirate.
The council specifically accused Senator Umar of disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State Governor, actions it said were at variance with the teachings and culture of Bauchi Emirate.
It could be recalled that the Bauchi South Senator had in a chat with journalists weeks ago accused Governor Mohammed of short-changing the people of Bauchi as regards some palliative items sent to the state by the APC-led federal government.

The senator enumerated some palliatives such as rice, corn and fertiliser sent to the state by the federal government for the onward distribution to the people of the state to cushion the effects of economic hardship, alleging that the items were sold out by the state government.
Senator Shehu warned Governor Mohammed that Tinubu is not his mate in politics, saying he (Senator Buba) is his mate because they joined politics same day through their leader former Bauchi State Governor Malam Isa Yuguda.
He accused Governor Mohammed of being responsible for poverty, hunger and anger in the state and for short changing the people of the state for not releasing the 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertiliser, 20 trucks of rice donated to the people of the state by the federal government, 144bn in 2023 and 147bn from January to date from the federation account.
He alleged that the state government collected 300bn loan and awarded major contracts to himself and built the best house for himself with over 70 rooms which led to abject poverty in the state because people are being impoverished by the PDP policy in Bauchi.
