CAF President, Motsepe, wants flags at half-mast in memory of African football icon Hayatou
The President of the Confederation of African Football, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has requested that the CAF flag and the flags of all CAF Member Associations be lowered to half-mast for a period of five days, until 13 August 2024, in honour of former president, Issa Hayatou who passed away on Thursday, one day before his 78th birthday.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, is deeply saddened by the death of former CAF President, Issa Hayatou, who led CAF from 1988 to 2017 and passed away today.
In a statement released by the African football governing body, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, said: “I offer my heartfelt condolences, as well as the condolences of the 54 CAF Member Associations, on the passing of former CAF President, President Issa Hayatou, to his family, the Cameroonian Football Federation, its President Samuel Eto’o, and the people of Cameroon.

“CAF and African Football will always be grateful to President Hayatou for his significant and wide-ranging contributions, spanning many years, to the progress and advancement of football in Africa. He will always be remembered in our hearts and thoughts.”
