CGC Adeniyi urges professionalism as 50 officers graduate from junior course 19 (Pictures)
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has charged newly graduated officers to continue upholding professionalism and remain dedicated ambassadors of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). This directive was delivered during the graduation ceremony of 50 officers who completed the Junior Course 19 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Tuesday, 27 August 2024.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration, and Technical Services, DCG Bello Jibo, CGC Adeniyi emphasised the importance of continuous learning and the role it plays in enhancing the value and efficiency of the Service. Addressing the graduands, DCG Jibo stated, “The knowledge you have gained here is your foundation to show your commitment to continuous learning and development that will define your success. Go forth with confidence; serve with honour and lead with integrity.”
He praised the graduates for their resilience throughout the rigorous three-month training and highlighted the significance of their achievements, noting that their success reflects the commitment to excellence in Customs operations and administration. “Your journey has not been easy, but your resilience and determination have brought you to this point. The knowledge and skills you have acquired here are not just tools for your career; they are keys to unlocking the future of the Nigeria Customs Service,” DCG Jibo added.

The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Assistant Comptrollers-General, the Commandant of the College, ACG Kingsley Egwuh, and the Deputy Commandant, Comptroller Oluyomi Adebakin. ACG Egwuh, in his remarks, conferred the title of Pass Junior Staff Course (PJSC) on the graduates and urged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their respective commands.
Comptroller Oluyomi Adebakin, who serves as the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at NCCSC Gwagwalada, also encouraged the graduates to remain good ambassadors of the Service. She emphasised the importance of transferring their knowledge to their subordinates and noted that the training included leadership, public speaking, and computer programs that will shape their careers as professional Customs officers.
One of the graduates, Superintendent of Customs Ekene Ochi, shared his experience, expressing gratitude for the robust training provided by the college. He thanked the NCS management and the college’s leadership for their support and guidance, which have equipped him and his colleagues for future challenges in the Service.
The graduation ceremony was preceded by a regimental dinner night held on Monday, 26 August 2024, to celebrate the graduating students. Speaking at the dinner, DCG Bello Jibo, representing CGC Adeniyi, highlighted the significance of the course in fostering professional growth and camaraderie among officers.
In his speech, DCG Jibo remarked, “This course is essential to our officers’ professional growth and capacity building. When the college introduced senior and junior courses a few years ago, we could hardly have imagined the significant achievements that would emerge from this initiative today.”
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates, recognising their exceptional dedication and performance throughout their training at the college.
