Court grants 30-day detention for policeman, 19 others over alleged involvement in terrorism

A Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the request of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to detain Assistant Superintendent of Police A. A. Babangida and 19 other individuals for 30 days over their alleged involvement in banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Justice Peter Lifu granted the DIA’s request, allowing operatives to thoroughly investigate the suspects’ connections to these serious criminal activities.

ASP Babangida, who was apprehended in June 2024 and has remained in DIA custody since then, is accused of providing assistance to Boko Haram, bandits, and ISWAP members in executing their terrorist operations across various regions of the country.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the detention order while delivering a ruling in an ex-parte application brought before the Court by DIA.

Counsel for the security agency, S.A Aminu, while arguing the ex-parte application, requested the court’s permission to detain the suspects for 90 days.
