Drug War: 3 kingpins, 16 others bag 302 years in jail for drug trafficking
In a significant blow to drug trafficking operations, three major drug kingpins and 16 accomplices have been sentenced to a combined total of 302 years in prison.
This follows a rigorous investigation and prosecution by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The convictions are part of a larger crackdown, with a total of 414 drug traffickers sentenced by the Federal High Court across several Nigerian states between July 1 and July 31, 2024.
One of the key figures, 50-year-old Bolanle Lookman Dauda, was apprehended during a high-stakes raid on May 25, 2024, while attempting to smuggle cocaine into Ghana.
Authorities seized 57.5 kilograms of the drug from Dauda, leading to a 21-year prison sentence or a ₦30 million fine, as ruled by Justice Ambrose Allagoa on July 19, 2024.
Another notable trafficker, 34-year-old Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi, was arrested in Lagos with 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl—a potent synthetic opioid.
Ifeanyi received a 14-year sentence or a ₦2 million fine, following Justice Kehinde Ogundare’s ruling on July 4, 2024.
Christian Anyanwu, caught with 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine in November 2022, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with four years being mandatory without the option of a fine.

Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA Chairman/CEO, praised the agency’s personnel and the judiciary for their swift action, highlighting that these convictions will bolster efforts to reduce drug supply in the country.
