#EndBadGovernance: Protesters storm Wike’s residence in Port Harcourt

The #EndBadGovernance protest escalated in Rivers State on Tuesday as demonstrators made their way to the Port Harcourt residence of Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Footage circulating online captured the large crowd of protesters chanting slogans and holding placards with various messages.

Upon arriving at Wike’s residence, which was heavily guarded by police officers, many of the demonstrators sat on the tarred road in front of the house.

The demonstrations, which began last Thursday, have spread across multiple states as citizens voice their frustrations regarding ongoing economic challenges facing the nation.

Wike has been a vocal opponent of the protests, previously attempting to inhibit them in the capital city.

He denied permission for the Eagles Square to be used as a gathering location when the rights group Take It Back movement requested it.

Additionally, in July, he urged local residents not to participate in the protests.
