FCT police urge hospitals to report gunshot wounds
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has called on medical personnel to report any gunshot wound cases to the police. This advisory follows a recent confrontation between police and hoodlums, who exploited ongoing hunger protests to commit robberies and assaults along the Lugbe area of Abuja.
SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, explained that the police engaged in a gunfight with the hoodlums, some of whom sustained gunshot injuries. She emphasized the importance of reporting such cases in line with the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017.
“Following distress calls regarding criminal activities under the guise of protest, including armed robbery and assaults, we are alerting all healthcare facilities in the FCT,” Adeh said. “It is crucial that victims with gunshot wounds receive necessary medical attention and that local police stations are informed for further investigation.”

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, warned against using the protest as a cover for criminal activities. He reassured residents of ongoing police efforts to maintain order and protect public property.
“The police and security agents are on high alert to prevent and respond to crimes disguised as protest activities,” Igweh stated. “We appreciate the cooperation of the public and urge everyone to help in maintaining peace and safety during this period.”
