Flood kills 6, displaces 2,000 in Adamawa communities
A devastating flood has wreaked havoc across several communities in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, leading to significant losses and widespread displacement. The disaster has claimed six lives and displaced over 2,000 people, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The flood, which has severely impacted the region, destroyed numerous homes, farmlands, and bridges. The worst-affected communities include Kichinga, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, along with Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam.
Madagali Local Government Council Executive Chairman, Hon. Simon Musa, confirmed the incident in an interview with newsmen, revealing that some of the affected communities had never experienced such a disaster in their history. He stated that thousands of displaced residents are currently seeking refuge in ten temporary camps established across the region.
According to Hon. Musa, the flooding was triggered by a heavy downpour on the Mandara mountain, causing severe erosion and damage to the Shuwa Bridge, as well as homes, food supplies, and farmlands.

In response to the disaster, Hon. Musa appealed to both the federal and state governments, as well as humanitarian agencies, to provide urgent assistance to the affected communities. He emphasized the need for immediate intervention to support those who have been displaced and to help restore the damaged infrastructure.
Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi, the Village Head of Shuwa, described the incident as “unfortunate and pathetic,” urging the government to take swift action to alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
The flood has drawn attention to the vulnerability of the region and the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address the impact of natural disasters on communities in Adamawa State.
