Gobir residents raid forests to battle bandits and free kidnapped loved ones

Thousands of residents from Gobir in Sokoto State have taken matters into their own hands by storming the forests to confront bandits and rescue their abducted loved ones.

Reports indicate that the crowd, comprising both men and women, is determined to bring home 150 kidnapped individuals and recover the remains of the slain district head, Isa Mohammad Bawa, who was brutally murdered by bandits.

The residents’ bold and desperate move follows the continued failure of security forces to address the escalating kidnapping and violence in the region.

Despite police denial of the kidnapping of 150 people last Friday, the community remains resolute in their mission.

The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, stated, “We’re not aware of the kidnapping of 150 people in the Gobir Emirate of Sokoto State.”

As they ventured into the forest, the residents sang war songs and invoked the name of Allah, demonstrating their determination and desperation.

Their rallying cry was, “It’s fight to the finish! It’s either us or them (bandits), no going back.”
