Harris surges as Trump struggles in key swing states

In a dramatic turn in the US presidential race, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are set to hold crucial campaign events in Pennsylvania this weekend.

Harris will be rallying supporters around Pittsburgh, while Trump will address voters in Wilkes-Barre.

This comes as new polls show Harris making significant gains following President Joe Biden’s unexpected withdrawal from the race on July 21.

Recent polling data from the New York Times and Siena College reveals Harris gaining traction in four key battleground states—Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada, and Georgia.

The vice president now leads in Arizona and North Carolina and is closing the gap in Nevada and Georgia. This shift in momentum has put Trump’s campaign on the defensive.

Trump’s rally in Wilkes-Barre aims to counter Harris’s surge. However, his campaign has faced criticism for focusing on personal attacks rather than addressing pressing issues.

Trump has continued to criticise Harris, questioning her intelligence and political stance while branding her as a “communist,” a strategy that may alienate undecided and independent voters crucial for the November 5 election.

Trump’s campaign has highlighted issues such as inflation and illegal immigration but has struggled to generate the same energy as Harris’s campaign, which has energized the Democratic base.

Harris, in contrast, has concentrated on economic proposals to alleviate post-pandemic inflation and distance herself from Biden’s less popular policies.

With the election day approaching, the race is increasingly focused on swing states like Pennsylvania.

Trump’s narrow loss in Pennsylvania in 2020 underscores the importance of rallying his support base in rural and small-town areas.

Harris will seek to build on her poll momentum as she prepares for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next week, where she will accept the party’s nomination.

As both candidates vie for the critical swing states, the upcoming week promises to be pivotal in shaping the direction of the presidential race.
