Housemaid set 4-bedroom apartment on fire while trying to light gas cooker
A housemaid in Ilorin inadvertently caused a fire that engulfed her employer’s four-bedroom apartment on Thursday. The fire, which occurred at around 10:42 a.m. at No. 6, Phase 1, off Baba-Soja Street, Akerebiata, was triggered by the maid’s attempts to light a gas cooker in a kitchen filled with liquefied gas.
Despite several attempts to ignite the cooker, an explosion eventually occurred, leading to a fire that severely damaged the residence.
Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity at the Kwara Fire Service, confirmed the incident, noting that while the housemaid was caught in the blaze, she miraculously escaped unharmed. The fire service responded promptly to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
