‘I wasn’t given fair hearing,’ Senator Shehu Buba slams Bauchi Emirate for title withdrawal
Shehu Buba, the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has condemned the Bauchi Emirate Council’s decision to revoke his Mujaddadin Bauchi title. The council’s action, announced on Thursday, follows allegations that Buba insulted the state governor, Bala Mohammed.
The controversy erupted after Buba criticised Governor Mohammed’s policies during the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government election campaign in Bauchi. In his remarks, Buba accused the governor of exacerbating poverty in the state and called for greater accountability in the management of state resources.
In a letter to the Emir of Bauchi, Buba expressed his dismay at the emirate council’s swift decision, which he claims was made without giving him a fair hearing. The senator, who also chairs the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, expressed regret over the council’s action and reiterated his commitment to addressing the state’s challenges.

Buba defended himself by addressing several points. He refuted claims by Governor Mohammed that the Tinubu administration was responsible for any abuse, instead accusing the governor of mismanagement and misuse of his office. He highlighted that the governor had received significant financial allocations from the Federation Account and questioned the use of these funds given Bauchi’s economic difficulties.
The senator also urged the Emirate Council to avoid becoming embroiled in political conflicts and to focus on its traditional roles. He concluded his letter by wishing the Emir of Bauchi long-term health and effective leadership.
The withdrawal of Buba’s chieftaincy title has sparked debate, with many questioning the motivations behind the emirate council’s decision and the broader implications for local politics in Bauchi State.
