ICPC arrests NAHCON officials over N90bn Hajj subsidy scandal
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained several officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in connection with a N90 billion Hajj subsidy.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed the arrests, clarifying that the commission had not shut down NAHCON, contrary to some reports.
Bakare stated: “We are investigating NAHCON officials for failing to respond to our invitations. We conducted the arrests legally and within the boundaries of our authority.
The arrested officials are now on bail and will continue to aid the investigation.”

NAHCON’s spokesperson Fatimah Usara noted that the commission had been cooperating and providing necessary documentation as requested by the ICPC.
She explained: “The Head of Procurement was invited but did not attend. As a result, the ICPC officers visited him at work. The officers did not enter any offices but waited for him outside.”
The investigation is ongoing as the ICPC seeks to uncover details surrounding the subsidy allocations.
