Immigration officer accidentally shoots self during protest in Borno
Pandemonium ensued on Thursday in the Bulunkutu area of Maiduguri when an immigration officer accidentally shot himself in the foot three times while attempting to manage protesters.
The sound of the gunfire initially incited panic among demonstrators, who feared one of their own had been shot.
However, they soon calmed upon realising that the injured party was a member of the security team.

According to reports, a joint task force comprising the police, military, immigration, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Civil Defence had established a blockade at the Bulumkutu Railway Junction to deter protesters from advancing into the heart of Maiduguri.
The injured officer, whose name has not yet been revealed, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, and his current condition remains unclear.
The protests were fueled by frustration over the government’s handling of the ongoing insurgency in the region, alongside calls to address corruption, the rising cost of living, and various other pressing national issues.
