Lawyer arraigned for allegedly forging dead man’s will
An Ondo-based legal practitioner, Olusegun Agunloye, has been remanded in custody for allegedly forging the will of a deceased client, Benjamin Chibuzor Ejelonu.
Agunloye was brought before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Akure, where he faced charges of conspiracy and forgery.
The charges against Agunloye stem from allegations that he, in collaboration with Aminat Ijeoma Bakare, the deceased’s sister, forged the will of Ejelonu and submitted it to the Probate Registry of the State High Court in Akure.
Bakare, 72, is also currently facing trial in the same court for related charges.
According to the police prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, the alleged offences were committed on September 7, 2023, in violation of Sections 516 and 467(2)(f) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.

During the court proceedings, Agunloye pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugbe, requested bail on the grounds that Agunloye was a practising lawyer and had committed the alleged offences while performing his professional duties.
However, the prosecutor opposed the bail application, arguing that Agunloye was a flight risk and had previously violated the terms of administrative bail granted to him by the police.
Magistrate Kolawole Aro, while granting bail, set the sum at N2,000,000, with two sureties in the same amount.
The case has been adjourned until September 26, 2024, for further hearing and consolidation of the related cases.
