Man jailed for planting ‘Death Penalty’ weed in wife’s car
A Singaporean man, Tan Xianglong, has been sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison after attempting to frame his estranged wife by planting cannabis in her car.
Tan, 37, plotted the scheme with the intent to trigger a death penalty charge against his wife, as Singapore mandates capital punishment for trafficking more than 500 grams of cannabis.
Court documents reveal that Tan, frustrated with his wife over financial disputes and a stalled divorce, bought the drugs on the black market, measuring them at 510 grams.

Despite knowing the potential consequences, he proceeded with his plan, driven by anger.
However, laboratory analysis later revealed that the drugs contained only 216.17 grams of pure cannabis, below the death penalty threshold.
His wife was initially arrested but later cleared when police shifted their investigation to Tan, leading to his arrest and conviction.
Tan’s case highlights the strict drug laws in Singapore, where the death penalty is enforced by hanging for severe drug offenses.
Despite international criticism, Singaporean authorities maintain that these measures contribute to the country’s safety.
