Two teenagers, Malik Abdulganiyu and Hawal Akande, who were reported
missing earlier this week, have been found dead in a river in the Edudu Baale, Idi-Oke community of Igbesa, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The 15-year-old Abdulganiyu and 13-year-old Akande were last seen on the morning of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, when they left their home on Olaigbe Street, Egudu Baale, to work at a nearby Salvation Army location within their community. Tragically, the boys never made it back home that day, prompting their families to raise the alarm.
For two agonizing days, their families and the local community searched desperately for any sign of the boys. However, their worst fears were confirmed on Friday when their lifeless bodies were discovered floating in a nearby river, not far from their home.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the boys’ mothers had reported their disappearance in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, 2024. “On August 29, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the mothers of Abdulganiyu and Akande reported that their children had not returned home from work the previous day,” Odutola said.
Upon the discovery of the bodies, police detectives swiftly moved to the scene, conducting a thorough examination of the corpses. Despite the tragic circumstances, the examination revealed no signs of physical attack or foul play on the boys’ bodies.
The grieving families, adhering to Islamic traditions, requested the immediate release of the bodies to allow for their burial according to religious rites.
As investigations continue, the local community remains in mourning over the loss of two young lives under such tragic circumstances. Y cause of death remains unknown, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
