NGGW DG flags off 2024 direct tree planting programme in Kano (pictures)

The Director General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NGGW), Saleh Abubakar, has flagged off the 2024 direct tree planting in Fagwalawa Dashi, Danbatta local government area of Kano State.
Speaking during the planting event, Saleh Abubakar said the objective of planting trees was to avert desertification and other environmental challenges affecting the area.
Represented by the Head of Afforestation and Land Management Department Kano Office, Auwalu Yusuf, said the Tree Planting Campaign was flagged off in all the eleven Frontline States NGGW is working on.
He said the aim of the programme was to restore the degraded land and also to curtail the menace of desertification and improve soil fertility.
“We are planting trees on 176 hectares of land which involves two hundred seedlings of different species,” he said.
The state coordinator field officer, NGGW Kano office, Ahmad Mukhtar, said the direct tree planting would play a vital role in reviving the degraded land, stressing that numerous environmental challenges would be averted through the programme.
He maintained that the community was fully participating in the programme, which is the secret behind the success of tree plantation nationwide.

Ahmad Mukhtar commended the commitment and dedication of the new Director General of the agency for being prompt in flagging off this year’s tree planting programme in all the eleven Frontline States.
Malam Isah Shuaibu, the community leader of Dama Community, Danbatta local government area, commended the agency for planting trees with the aim of curtailing environmental challenges.
