Northern protests were a sabotage scheme – Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri, a prominent Nigerian commentator, has alleged that the recent protests in Northern Nigeria were part of a deliberate psychological operation designed to undermine the region. Omokri, who shared his views on his X account, claimed that “not one of the protest organisers or promoters is from the core North. Not a single one.” Despite this, he noted that the violence, destruction of property, and looting that occurred were concentrated entirely in the North.
In his post, Omokri described the situation as a “psychological operation against Arewa” aimed at creating discord within the region and against the Federal Government. He observed that “in less than twenty-four hours, billions of Naira worth of property were destroyed, and people were waving the Russian flags.”
Omokri questioned the connection between the Northern protesters and Russia, stating, “What do the poor Northern masses know about Russia? What is their business with Putin?” He suggested that the display of Russian flags was orchestrated by external actors, possibly not even from the North, to create a false narrative and incite further unrest.
The commentator also linked these events to a broader conspiracy, claiming that the same forces responsible for the protests were behind false reports made to Israeli intelligence. Omokri alleged, “These are the same people who reported me to the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, on the same day the protest started, falsely claiming that I was the second in command of Hamas, and asking the Israelis to assassinate me.”

In concluding his statement, Omokri emphasised that if the protests had truly been a national movement, “the organisers have proven in the past that they knew how to mobilise the whole of Nigeria if they so wished.” He asserted that the selective focus on the North was a “strategic move” rather than a mistake.
Omokri’s claims paint the recent turmoil as a calculated effort to destabilise Northern Nigeria and manipulate public perception, with the goal of sowing division and confusion.
