The family of Taiwo Akinkunmi, designer of Nigeria’s national flag, have announced that his burial ceremony will hold next month, September 2024.

Late Akinkunmi died on August 29 2023 at the age of 87.

A statement issued on Monday by his son Akinwumi Akinkunmi on the family’s behalf said the burial programme has been scheduled to hold between Wednesday, September 4 and Friday, September 6, 2024, assuring that a detailed burial arrangement would soon be communicated.

He said, “We thank the Federal Government for sending the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Honourable Idris Mohammed, to pay condolence to the family when the incident happened.”

While stating that they were still hopeful of hearing from the Federal Government as regards its promises in respect of the burial, the family requested that the Nigerian flag be flown at half-mast to give the departed Akinkunmi his last respects during the burial period.
