Over 50 armed robbers storm FCT border settlement, rob residents

Residents of Angwan Albarka, a neighbourhood bordering Abacha Road at the periphery of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State, experienced a terrifying ordeal in the early hours of Wednesday, August 13, 2024, as a group of more than 50 armed robbers invaded the area.

The attackers, armed with guns and machetes, breached the security of the neighbourhood by cutting through barbed wire fences, uprooting metal protectors on balconies, and forcefully breaking down doors to gain access to the homes.

Witnesses, including children, reported that the robbers moved swiftly and violently, speaking in Hausa as they carried out their attack around 2:00 am.

The criminals demanded that residents hand over their SIM cards, ATM cards with passcodes, phones, laptops, and other valuable electronics.

Even children were not spared, as their earrings and other jewellery were taken, with the robbers claiming they were made of gold.

In one estate comprising eight flats and a self-contained unit, all the flats were robbed, leaving the residents traumatised and in fear for their safety.

This incident follows a similar pattern of robbery reported in the Kuchiyako area of the Masaka axis a few months earlier, where armed robbers, also in large numbers, carried out swift and vicious attacks in the early hours of the morning.

As of the time of filing this report, it is unclear whether the incident has been reported to the police at the Abacha Road Police Station, leaving the residents of Angwan Albarka in a state of heightened fear and insecurity.
