Police in Jos arrests kidnapper after collecting ₦1.5 million ransom
Residents of Nepa community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have apprehended a suspected kidnapper who had collected ₦1.5 million as ransom from the relatives of his victims.
The arrest took place after locals discovered the suspect’s hideout in the Plateau State capital.
Confirming the incident, DSP Alabor Alfred, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, stated that the suspect is currently under investigation by the anti-kidnapping unit.
A local vigilante member, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the events leading to the arrest.
According to the vigilante, the kidnapper had abducted two children, aged four and five years, and demanded a ransom from their parents. Although the ransom was paid, the kidnapper did not immediately release the children.
The following day, the kidnapper returned to an unoccupied building where he had been holding the minors.
However, people passing by heard the children crying and quickly alerted others. As the kidnapper attempted to flee by jumping out of a window, residents, alerted by shouts of “Kidnapper!”, mobilised and caught him.

The community members handed the suspect over to the vigilante group, who in turn took him to Laranto Police Station. Along with the kidnapper, the vigilantes also recovered ₦1,492,000 of the ransom money, which had been collected from the parents of the victims.
The police are continuing their investigation, and further details are expected as the case progresses.
