Police in Zaria arrest 2 for allegedly burying man alive over stolen phone
The Kaduna State Police Command has detained two suspects in Zaria for allegedly burying a man alive. The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday.
The incident came to light after a disturbing video went viral, showing a person buried with only his head visible above the ground.
The police, upon seeing the video, launched an investigation which led to the discovery of the 20-year-old victim from Gauraki village in Kufena ward, Zaria, and the subsequent arrest of the suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the suspects, who are siblings, were all working as labourers at a construction site in Abuja.

The conflict arose when a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects, valued at N35,000, was stolen.
The suspects accused the victim of the theft and decided that his daily wages would be withheld to buy a replacement phone.
Angered by this decision, the victim left Abuja and returned to Zaria. However, the suspects tracked him down on August 10, forcibly took him to an uncompleted building, and dug a hole resembling a grave.
They bound the victim’s hands and feet, gagged him, and buried him in the hole, leaving only his head exposed.
The victim was rescued when a passerby heard his muffled cries and alerted the authorities.
The police promptly arrested the suspects, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Commissioner of Police Audu Ali has warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
The police spokesperson assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated and handled professionally, ensuring that justice is served.
