Revert to old price of Passport, Nigerians are struggling with untold hardship – FOSAD to FG
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has expressed grave concerns over the recent hike in the cost of international passports in Nigeria.
The new price now surpasses the national minimum wage, placing an overwhelming burden on ordinary Nigerians who are already grappling with severe economic hardships.
In a statement issued on Friday, FOSAD highlighted that the international passport, a crucial document for travel and identification, has become prohibitively expensive under the new pricing structure.
This increase is viewed as both unjust and burdensome, especially in a nation where many citizens struggle to meet basic needs on a minimum wage that falls well short of the cost of living.

FOSAD has called on the Federal Government to revert to the previous pricing for international passports, which was more affordable and accessible to the general public. The statement emphasizes that access to an international passport should not be a privilege reserved for the wealthy but a fundamental right for all citizens. The prohibitive cost under the new pricing effectively restricts this right and hinders many Nigerians from pursuing opportunities abroad for education, work, or other legitimate purposes.
FOSAD’s leadership, including Dr. Stephen Nwala (President) and Dr. Uzor Ngoladi (Secretary General), has urged the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens by implementing policies that alleviate, rather than compound, their economic struggles. They believe that reverting to the old passport pricing is a crucial step toward easing the financial burdens on Nigerians and demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of its people.
