State Judiciary investigates Chief Magistrate for unlawful conviction
In the case titled *Commissioner of Police vs. Benjamin Andrew* (Charge No 25C/MIL), the suspect was accused of stealing cocoa on a farm in Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji Okeigbo Local Government Area. Despite his not guilty plea to the three-count charge, he was sentenced to three years in prison for each charge without undergoing a proper trial.
The conviction has sparked significant outrage on social media, prompting the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Olusola Odusola, to establish a panel to scrutinize the court’s decision. The judiciary, through a statement by Chief Registrar Yetunde Ajanaku, expressed deep concern over the case and its public fallout.
