Tinubu, Equatorial Guinea’s Mbasogo seal agreement for gas pipeline project
President Bola Tinubu and President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea have signed an agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries for mutual development.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, stated in a release on Thursday that the agreement was signed on Wednesday evening in Malabo.
The agreement includes provisions for legislative and regulatory measures related to the gas pipeline, its establishment and operation, the transit of natural gas, ownership of the pipeline, and general principles.
In his remarks at the event, President Tinubu, who is on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea, stated that the signing of the agreement would open up new opportunities for gas exploration and create employment.

The President added that the two leaders discussed issues related to job creation, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution mechanisms on the continent.
“Regarding Africa, we discussed conflicts and conflict resolution. We examined various areas of conflict and how we can promote peace.
“We talked about fostering peace and stability in our countries and pursuing growth and prosperity across the continent.”
According to him, African countries need to address issues such as inadequate capital, industrialization, and research and development programs while finding solutions to their own problems.
“Instead of focusing on the crises and conflicts we see in the Republic of Congo and elsewhere, we need to look inward and address these issues ourselves,” the President said.
He said the discussion with the President of Equatorial Guinea also covered challenges related to security, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and food security.
“We are all committed to this. Within Africa and the African Union, we have resolved to work together to ensure that solutions to many of our problems come from within,” President Tinubu concluded.
In his remarks, President Mbasogo said that bilateral relations with Nigeria over the years have been rewarding and emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in key areas.
He also stated that Africa’s vision of securing a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council is crucial for the continent’s development.
He affirmed that Equatorial Guinea would work with Nigeria to achieve this objective.
President Mbasogo added that the signing of the agreement was strategic for Africa’s development.
Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Simeon Esono, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Equatorial Guinea, also signed the agreement.
Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General; Muhammad Abubakar, the Minister of Defence; and Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, witnessed the signing.
Others present included Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Gas, and Dr. Jamila Ibrahim-Bio, the Minister of Youth Development.
