Tinubu heads to China after Paris trip
One week after returning from a trip to France, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is preparing for a visit to the People’s Republic of China.
According to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the trip to China is scheduled for the first week of September.
Ngelale said the China visit is part of the current administration’s efforts to improve the well-being of Nigerians.
In China, Tinubu is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping, where several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed.
President Tinubu will also meet with ten Chief Executive Officers of Chinese companies in the fields of oil and gas, aluminum production, agriculture, and satellite technology.
Ngelale stated, “The President will conduct site visits to two major Chinese corporations: Huawei Technologies and the China Rail and Construction Corporation (CRCC). This is part of President Tinubu’s agenda to complete the Ibadan to Abuja segment of the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail line.”
He also noted that the President would meet with CEOs of ten major Chinese corporations, which manage assets totaling over $3 trillion across multiple sectors, including information and communications technology, refining, oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport construction, harbor construction, dredging services, satellite technology development, and other critical areas.
While in China, President Tinubu will also engage with President Xi Jinping, where various MoUs will be signed to deepen cooperation in areas such as the green economy, agriculture, satellite technology development, media enterprise development and promotion, and blue economic development and national planning cooperation.
“This visit will be part of a broader engagement where the two heads of state will discuss matters of mutual interest, including not only economic issues but also national, regional, and international security.”
Ngelale noted that President Bola Tinubu would also participate in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, where several African heads of state will be present to engage with Chinese leaders on various important matters.
“At the FOCAC Summit, President Bola Tinubu, in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will deliver remarks on behalf of the region. He will also participate in the high-level peace and security plenary, where he will address issues related to peace and security in the region and Africa, in his role as President of Nigeria.”
“This engagement is expected to yield significant, tangible benefits for the Nigerian economy and the Nigerian people. The President is focused on ensuring that this visit produces concrete results and justifies any expenditures incurred during the trip.”
The trip comes amid a dispute between Nigeria and a Chinese firm that seized a presidential aircraft over an alleged breach of contract.
