Tinubu mourns former CAF President Issa Hayatou
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deep condolences following the death of Issa Hayatou, the former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu extended his sympathies to Hayatou’s family, the Cameroonian Football Federation, the people of Cameroon, and the broader African football community.

He noted that Hayatou’s death represents a significant loss to the world of sports, especially given his substantial contributions to the development of football across Africa and globally.
Hayatou was not only a pivotal figure in African football but also served as the acting President of the world’s football governing body, FIFA, during a critical period in the organisation’s history.
President Tinubu offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Hayatou’s soul and strength for his family during this challenging time.
