Trump agrees to debate Kamala Harris on September

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announces he has agreed to a debate with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4. Trump shared the news on his Truth Social platform late Friday, stating, “I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th.”

It remains unclear whether Harris has officially confirmed her participation in the debate. Trump’s announcement follows Harris securing the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination as their standard bearer for the November election earlier that day.

Trump’s campaign has faced significant shifts recently. On July 21, President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew from the presidential race, endorsing Harris as his successor amid mounting concerns over his age and declining polling numbers. Biden’s withdrawal came after a poor debate performance against Trump in June on CNN.

The previously scheduled second Trump-Biden debate, set for September 10 on ABC, is expected to proceed, but with Harris now as the Democratic nominee. Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, had criticized scheduling any debates before Harris’s formal nomination.

Trump’s post also detailed the debate’s logistics, including the venue and moderators, and confirmed it will be held before a live audience.
