Victims seek ₦160bn compensation from NNPCL for 2018 demolitions
Victims of a 2018 demolition exercise conducted by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are demanding over ₦160 billion in compensation.
The demolition, which affected structures along the pipeline and Tanke Road in Ilorin, was ordered by the NNPC for right of way purposes.
According to Tope Ajetumobi, a representative of the affected individuals, approximately 976 structures were demolished.
Despite a 2019 resolution by the House of Representatives Public Petitions Committee instructing NNPCL to assess and negotiate compensation, the company has reportedly ignored these directives.
Ajetumobi stated, “The House of Representatives passed a resolution on May 30, 2019, directing NNPC to assess the value of the damaged properties and negotiate with the victims.
However, NNPC both declined and ignored this resolution.”
The matter has been raised multiple times, including in the 9th and 10th assemblies, with limited response from NNPCL.
Efforts to address the issue through the House committee on legislative compliance have been unsuccessful, according to Ajetumobi.

The victims are now urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure they receive the ₦160.75 billion in compensation.
