In a recent visit to an examination venue, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Service’s dedication to transparency and fairness in the ongoing 2024 promotion process. Adeniyi’s inspection at SASCON in Maitama District, Abuja, on 20 August 2024, was aimed at evaluating the preparations and integrity of the examination.
Adeniyi assured that the promotion process would adhere to the rigorous standards set in previous exercises, which were praised for their fairness. “Our commitment is to ensure that every deserving candidate is promoted purely on merit,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high levels of transparency, security, and integrity in the process, with enhanced measures in place to prevent malpractice.
The Comptroller-General acknowledged the competitive nature of this promotion cycle, particularly due to the limited number of vacancies for Deputy Comptroller and Comptroller positions. He expressed determination to identify and advance the most qualified officers.

In a move towards inclusivity, Adeniyi revealed that technological provisions had been implemented to allow officers stationed abroad to participate in the examination concurrently with their Nigerian counterparts. This initiative, supported by the National Intelligence Agency, aims to ensure that all eligible officers have equal opportunities regardless of their location.
“This promotion exercise is critical not only as a statutory requirement but also in upholding the high standards of our Service,” Adeniyi concluded. “We are committed to promoting officers based on their performance and merit, ensuring that those who excel are rewarded fairly.”
