YSUBEB launches roadmap to tackle out-of-school children

Story by Kasim Isa MUHAMMAD, Damaturu

Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (YSUBEB) has announced that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni is intensifying efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children across the state.

In an exclusive interview with Neptune Prime on Thursday, acting chairman of YSUBEB, Malam Isa Shettima, disclosed that a comprehensive roadmap has been established by SUBEB to tackle the issue head-on.

According to Shettima, the board’s primary objective is to work tirelessly to mitigate the number of children not attending school in Yobe.

He noted that the North-East region, where Yobe is located, has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children, making it a pressing concern.

He stated that, “To address this, YSUBEB is collaborating with international organisations like UNICEF and the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children.”

Shettima highlighted several initiatives aimed at achieving the mission of the state of emergency declared on education since 2019.

Meanwhile, Shettima expressed optimism that with these measures in place, Yobe State will soon be free of out-of-school children.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to addressing the issue and ensuring that all children have access to quality education.

Emphasising the importance of community involvement in addressing the issue, he noted that traditional leaders, religious leaders, and parents have a crucial role to play in encouraging children to attend school.

In addition, Shettima highlighted the need for sustainable funding to support the initiatives aimed at reducing out-of-school children.

He called on the federal government, international organisations, and private sector partners to support the state government’s efforts to address the issue.
