Police Affairs Minister, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has condemned the recent terrorist attack in Mafa community of Yobe State that claimed the lives of 34 people.

In a statement sent to Neptune Prime by Liman Goje, the minister expressed government’s commitment to restoring peace in order to avoid future occurrence.

The statement said,  “It is with a heavy heart that I address the recent and heinous attack on the Mafa community in which innocent lives were tragically cut short by ruthless bandits.

“This brutal and senseless act of violence has no place in our society, and it is a grave violation of the peace and security we strive to maintain.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Police Affairs, I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the entire Mafa community as well as government and people of Yobe State.

“This attack is immeasurable, and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this dark time. Let me assure you that this attack will not go unanswered. We are working with all relevant security agencies to immediately deploy additional resources to the region to ensure the safety of the residents and to prevent further attacks. There will be no hiding place for those who perpetrate such evil.

“We recognise that the road to healing will be long, but I want to assure the people of Mafa that we are with you every step of the way. We are committed to restoring peace and ensuring that such tragedies do not occur again. We will not rest until every citizen can live without fear in their own homes.

“As we mourn the lives lost, let us also reaffirm our collective resolve to stand against violence and terrorism in all its forms. Together, we will overcome these challenges and build a safer, more secure nation.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the Mafa community find strength and comfort in the support of the entire nation,” the statement said.

Neptune Prime reports that terrorists attacked Mafa town on Sunday around 4 PM, killing 34 residents while setting fire to homes and businesses.

On Tuesday, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for the tragic incident.
