2024 Paralympic: Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle secures bronze in table tennis
Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle has earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, marking a significant achievement for the country. His performance in the Men’s Singles Class 4 event brings Nigeria its first singles Paralympic medal since the Sydney 2000 Games. Back then, Tajudeen Agunbiade and Alabi Olufemi won gold and bronze, respectively.
Ogunkunle’s road to the bronze was filled with memorable moments, including a standout victory over reigning Paralympic champion Abdullah Ozturk of Turkey in the Round of 16, and a quarterfinal triumph over Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Maxime Thomas from France.

Despite his strong performance, Ogunkunle’s quest for gold ended in the semifinals, where he was defeated 3-1 by Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Kim Young-Gun of South Korea. Nonetheless, his achievement reignited Nigeria’s legacy in Paralympic table tennis and secured the country’s fifth medal at Paris 2024.
