Correctional officers suspended amid Bobrisky’s allegations

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended four senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service amid allegations of bribery and misconduct.

The suspension follows a voice note shared by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, in which Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed that after his conviction and sentencing for abuse of naira notes in April, his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment.

The suspended officers include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos State; Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the same facility; Ogbule Obinna, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State; and Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.

According to the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspension is intended to facilitate further investigation into the allegations against the officers.

Ahmed stated, “The suspension of these officers is to allow for a thorough investigation into the various allegations, and we assure the public that the outcome will be made known once concluded.”
