30-year-old man drowns in Jigawa pond
A 30-year-old man has drowned in a pond in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Wednesday.
The man, identified as Umar Wada, drowned when he attempted to cross the pond alongside three of his friends.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
He said, “The command, on Wednesday, 4th of September, 2022 at about 2200hrs received a report of an incident involving one Umar Wada aged 30, a resident of Yamma Village, who drowned at Akama pond in Jahun LGA.

“The sad incident occurred at about 2100hrs when Umar attempted to cross the pond along with his three friends, Sa’idu Bala, Zakariya Dauda and Lawan Muhammad, all of Yamma Village but was submerged by the water.
“His body was recovered after two hours of search and rescue operations in the flooded pond by local divers.
“On reaching to the hospital, he was certified dead and was handed over to his parents for burial,” the statement said.
