APC chieftain Igbokwe laments hardship, says Nigeria’s rescuers ‘Not Yet Born’
Joe Igbokwe, a notable All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed deep concerns over the economic hardship Nigerians are facing under the current administration. In a recent statement, Igbokwe highlighted the skyrocketing cost of living, particularly pointing out that a bag of rice now costs over ₦100,000.
In a Facebook post on Friday, September 27, Igbokwe lamented the increasing inflation, expressing his frustration and stating that the people who will save Nigeria from the ongoing economic crises are not yet born.
“With all the rice mills we have in Nigeria, my wife just told me that a bag of rice is now ₦100k plus. Without sounding immodest, I am constrained to say that the men and women that will rescue this country from self-inflicted pains and tears are not born yet,” Igbokwe wrote.
This isn’t the first time the APC chieftain has voiced concerns. Just a week earlier, Igbokwe criticised the recent hike in electricity tariffs, pleading with Tinubu to reconsider the policy. He warned that if left unaddressed, the rising costs of basic utilities would have dire effects on businesses and households across the country.
Igbokwe’s post generated a flurry of reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their own grievances and frustrations about the current state of affairs.

One Facebook user, Mahmud Tukura, commented, “I hope your core band of progressives will not soon tag you as a wailer ooo.”
Another commenter, Andrew Obeya Adaudu, welcomed Igbokwe to the “wailing club,” stating, “Glad to know you have finally accepted that Tinubu no be am too. Welcome to our club.”
In response to Igbokwe’s remark about the price of rice, Edidiong Umoren sarcastically advised, “Tell your wife to start growing rice in your backyard.”
Joe Igbokwe has been a long-time supporter of President Tinubu and the APC administration. Serving under multiple Lagos State governors since 1999, Igbokwe has frequently championed the policies of the ruling party. However, his recent criticism marks a notable departure from his usual stance, showing that even staunch allies of the government are feeling the strain of current economic challenges.
