Bauchi gov sacks Commissioner of Health, changes leadership in ministry of local gov’t

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed, has announced the removal of the Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Dr Adamu Sambo, from the cabinet as part of his effort to reposition his administration.
The governor explained that no commissioner will be appointed to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in compliance with the Supreme Court judgement that granted autonomy to Local Government Areas in the country.
Governor Bala disclosed this on Monday in Bauchi while swearing in three newly appointed Commissioners, a Special Adviser and a Chief Security Adviser.
He said following the apex court judgement, the ministry for local government is no longer relevant and will now be headed by the Permanent Secretary.
Announcing the removal of Dr Umar as the Commissioner of Health, the governor explained that the decision was to “rejig the machinery of governance for more results.”

He said, “We have to rejig the cabinet in order to achieve the set objectives of the administration.
“We need to bring in fresh blood, brains with fresh ideas of how to move the state ahead positively.”
The governor, however explained that, “The former Commissioner of Health was not dropped because of any infractions, it was just part of reorganisation of governance.
“Very soon, we will find a way to fix him in government where he will be most relevant and more active.
He advised the new commissioners to immediately focus on business by ensuring that they study all the handover notes left in their respective ministries to be able to catch up with the speed the administration is going.
The three Commissioners are Zainab Mohammed Baban Takko, Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development; Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, Ministry of Health and Engineer Mohammed Abdulkadir, Commerce and Industries, while AIG Abdulrahman (rtd) is the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
The state Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, represented by Justice Faruk Umar Sarki administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the three newly appointed commissioners before the commencement of the State Executive Council meeting.
Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, who was deployed to the Ministry for Women Affairs replaced Hajiya Hajara Jibrin Gidado, who was elected as the Executive Chairperson of Itas Gadau Local Government Area in the recent council polls.
Hajiya Zainab was the immediate past caretaker chairperson of Bauchi Local Government.
Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, the immediate past Chairman of Bauchi State Agency for HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria (BACATMA) now replaced the dropped Commissioner of Health Dr Adamu Sambo.
Engineer Mohammed Andulkadir is now the new Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and will replace Mahmood Baba Maaji, who is now the elected Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn in commissioners, Hajiya Babantakko thanked Governor Mohammed for the confidence he reposed in them with the appointment and pledged to put in their best and work hard to move the state forward.
