Blind man, 2 sons, attempt suicide on Lagos bridge over hardship

A 65-year-old blind man has been rescued on the verge of jumping into the Lagos lagoon with his two sons, aged 16 and 12, from the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
According to reports, the blind man, identified as Ewenla Ibrahim Adetomuwa, said he was struggling to provide for his family and could no longer bear the financial burden as economic hardship worsen in the country.

Passersby noticed the family at the edge of the bridge and quickly intervened.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating it occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Hundeyin added that a good Samaritan alerted the police, who promptly arrived at the scene.
“Adetomuwa said he planned to take his life so the government could care for his children after his death,” Hundeyin revealed.
Authorities are working to contact his wife.
