EFCC detains ex-gov Ishaku over alleged N27bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku into custody in connection with a staggering N27 billion fraud allegation. His arrest occurred at his residence in Abuja during the early hours of Friday, September 27, 2024.

Ishaku, who held office from 2015 until 2023, was apprehended following a covert investigation that has been ongoing since his departure from the governorship. EFCC insiders revealed that investigators have uncovered significant evidence linking Ishaku to a range of financial misconducts during his time in office.

According to sources, a 15-count charge has already been prepared against him, with the EFCC planning to arraign him in court in the coming days. One EFCC official disclosed, “We have been gathering evidence for some time now, and his inability to account for certain financial activities during his administration raised major red flags.”
