FG to establish blood collection centres in 774 LGAs
The Federal Government has announced plans to set up Blood Collection Centres across all 774 local government areas and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance blood availability for medical emergencies and transfusions.
Abdullahi Haruna, Head of Media and Publicity at the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), shared this development in Abuja on Saturday. Prof. Saleh Yuguda, Director-General of the NBSA, emphasised that this initiative is a major step towards addressing the nation’s blood shortages and improving healthcare outcomes.

The project will start with strategic facilities in the FCT, aiming to boost blood donation rates and ensure a reliable supply. Additionally, the NBSA has partnered with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to establish a blood bank at the Corps’ medical facility, further supporting emergency needs.
Haruna noted that this effort reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing the healthcare system and improving access to blood transfusions throughout Nigeria.
